| Une jeune campagnarde
de 19 ans, appelée Zimbabwe par son père patriote,
se retrouve orpheline. Affamée et sans autre issue, elle quitte
son village à la recherche d’une tante éloignée.
A la ville frontière de Beitbridge, elle pénètre
clandestinement en Afrique du Sud, en quête d’une nouvelle
vie, quelle qu’elle soit. En situation irrégulière,
elle est contrainte à travailler comme femme de ménage
pour un patron qui abuse d’elle. Un jour, pour se protéger,
elle se voit obligée de commettre un acte de violence, et
s’échappe en se rendant aux autorités. Elle est
alors rapatriée au Zimbabwe et apprend que son frère
vient de passer la frontière pour la retrouver. A young 19-year-old country girl, named Zimbabwe by her patriotic father, is orphaned. Starving and with few choices, she leaves her village to find a distant aunt. In the remote border town of Beitbridge, she crosses the border into South Africa, in search of a new life at any cost. Illegally in South Africa, Zimbabwe finds work as a maid but is repeatedly abused by her employer. She is forced to commit a violent act to protect herself and escapes by handing herself over to the authorities. She is deported to Zimbabwe, only to find that her brother has crossed the border to look for her. |

| Darrell James
Roodt est né et grandit à Johannesburg. A 32 ans, il
a déjà écrit et réalisé de nombreux
films de fiction : Place of Weeping (1982), premier film anti-apartheid
réalisé en Afrique du Sud, et qui le révèle
aux Etats-Unis. Darrell James Roodt was born and raised in Johannesburg (South Africa). At 32, he has already written and directed a number of fiction films including Place of Weeping (1982), the first anti-apartheid film shot in South Africa and that got him known in the USA. |
